This Shabbat’s Guest Speaker-Rabbi Joshua Maroof

The Young Mashadi Jewish Center would like to welcome Rabbi Joshua Maroof this Shabbat, August 16-17. Rabbi Maroof is a native Long Islander who has been the Rabbi of Magen David Sephardic Congregation in Rockville, MD for the past eight years. Rabbi Maroof received his BA in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook and an MA in Educational Psychology from CUNY. Rabbi Maroof has authored many essays/papers addressing the fundamental issues related to Judaism and maintains four online blogs, including a Dafi Yomi class. ROSH HASHANAH Fundraising Make the New Year Sweeter than Honey!

Join Janet Hakimian and her volunteers in continuing a Mashadi tradition of providing meals to needy families for the High Holidays. Donations will be used to provide food to Jewish families locally and to Mashadi families in need in Israel. Donations can be given to any of the following volunteers: Cheryl Behnam, Anna Carmili, Roxanne Davoodzadeh, Rozita Djourabchi, Melissa Ghafarian, Bianca Hakimi, Suzy Hakimian, Jila Hezghia, Dina Kalaty, Alice Kohanim, Hagit Mordechai, Janet Navaei- Livian, Judy Sabzevari, Dina Siouni, Lily Siouni.

Saturday Night Lecture & Selichot Presents: Oren Bezalely

Premiere of Saturday Night Lecture & Selihot

YMJC and MYC present the first session of Saturday Night Lecture & Selihot this Saturday night, August 10th at YMJC (130 Steamboat Rd.) Rabbi David Bitton will be this week’s guest speaker.  After receiving his semiha from the Shehebar Sephardic Center in Jerusalem, Rabbi Bitton became the head Rabbi of the Sephardic Synagogue of Shanghai, China and Menora Youth Programs. A light fairy dinner will be served at 11:00 pm followed by the lecture at 12 midnight on “Repentance: Made In China.” Selihot will follow at 12:50 am. Guest Speaker Dr. Yehuda Kamari at Young Mashadi Jewish Center – Tue, Aug 13

The Higher Education Committee Presents a special Guest Speaker Dr. Yehuda Kamari. Dr. Yehuda Kamari is a physician and a research scientist at the ShebaMedicalCenter in Israel. He will be the guest of our community at: Young Mashadi Jewish Center, 130 Steamboat Rd Tuesday August 13, 2013 – 8:30 PM. Dr. Kamari whose parents made aliya from Iran to Israel in 1952, specializes in the prevention of heart disease and will speak about his clinical work as a physician in Israel, as well as his research in atherosclerosis and diabetes.Dr Kamari also plays the Oud (a classical Persian music instrument) and will talk about how he connects to his Persian heritage through music. All Are Welcome Light refreshments will be Served (Submitted by Mansour Karimzadeh)
