Mashadi Community Scholar in Residence-Rabbi David Toledano – Shabbat, Aug 3

Please join us as we host Rabbi David Toledano on Shabbat, August 3rd. Rabbi Toledano hails from a tradition of Toledano family Rabbis spanning 800 years. He was born in Israel and attended the illustrious Ponovitz Yeshiva in Bnei Brak , under the late Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Menachem Man Shach. Rabbi Toledano subsequently attended the Hari Fishel Rabbinical School and received hissemicha from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Having immigrated to the United States in 1996 along with his wife Sari and four children, Rabbi Toledano has held teaching positions in Seattle, WA and Memphis, TN; as well as pulpit positions at Congregation Magen David of Beverly Hills and Ohr Letzion Congregation. His soon to be published book, “Get Married-Not Buried” focuses on Rabbi Toledano’s specialty in marriage counseling. Annual Bar/Bat-Mitzva Ceremony In The Gym Minyan – Shabbat, August 3rd

BAR MITZVAH KIDS 2013

Join us in the GYM minyan at 54 on August 3rd and share one of the beginning moves from childhood to adulthood with the new Gym Minyan members! All of the Bar/Bat Mitzva Boys, Girls, and family are invited to join us for this amazing ceremony. Certificates will be given out to formally to invite all of the teens into our minyan. Shacharit begins at 9:30. Light lunch will be served.

The ‘Boys” of the Gym Minyan will be Reading the Torah and run the Shabbat Service.

Mason Kalaty son of Farshad and Tanya Kalaty will be reading the first half of Chamishi.

Julian Namdar son of Benny and Kathrin Namdar will be reading the second half of Chamishi

Guest Speaker-Rabbi Joshua Maroof – This Shabbat July 26/27 at YMJC

The Young Mashadi Jewish Center would like to welcome Rabbi Joshua Maroof this Shabbat, July 26-27th. Rabbi Maroof is a native Long Islander who has been the Rabbi of Magen David Sephardic Congregation in Rockville, MD for the past eight years. Rabbi Maroof received his BA in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook and an MA in Educational Psychology from CUNY. Rabbi Maroof has authored many essays/papers addressing the fundamental issues related to Judaism and maintains four online blogs, including a Dafi Yomi class.Rabbi Maroof will deliver the derasha at Shaare Shalom on Friday night and at YMJC on Shabbat morning and afternoon.

Mashadi Community Scholar in Residence-Rabbi Hayyim Angel

Rabbi Hayyim J. Angel is the National Scholar of the Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals (www.jewishideas.org). He teaches advanced Bible courses to undergraduates and rabbinical students at Yeshiva University, and lectures widely. He has published over 100 scholarly articles, primarily in Bible, and is author or editor of ten books. He previously served for seventeen years as Rabbi at Congregation Shearith Israel of New York. He lives in New York with his wife and twin daughters. He attended Yeshivat HaKotel in Jerusalem, Israel and received a B.A summa cum laude in Jewish Studies from Yeshiva College, an M.A. in Bible from the Bernard Revel Graduate School, and an M.S. in Jewish Education from the Azrieli School of Jewish Education atYeshiva University in New York City. Senior Club Second Annual Picnic Day

Mashadi senior club in conjunction with Mashadi sisterhood are having their second annual picnic day.

The date of the event is Wednesday the 7th of August.

Music, entertainment, lunch, and fun

Free of charge for all ladies and gentlemen

Transportation to the park is available from 54 steamboat road at 9:30 am and back at 5pm

Tisha B’Av at YMJC

Join Rabbi Adam and Rabbi Moshe as we commemorate Tisha B’Av at the Young Mashadi Jewish Center. Mincha, Arvit, Eichah and Kinnot will begin at 8:05 p.m. The evening will also feature a film presentation after services in the social hall. The schedule for Tuesday will include Shaharit at 7:30 a.m with Eicah and Kinnot. A special Shiur by Rabbi Bitton at 6:45 p.m. followed by Mincha at 7:45 pm.  All men and women are welcome to attend. Annual Black Sour Cherry Farms Trip

Dear Friend

We are very happy to inform you that on Friday July 19 the Friends of Israel Bonds & Israel stamps & Israel Flag will having the yearly trip to ” Black Sour Cherry farms ”  We have buses that will leave to black sour cherry farms in catskill area of NY from the parking lot of Shaare Shalom synagogue in Great Neck at 4:45 AM and will return the same day at 5:00 PM.

All those individual  who would like to come must pay for their ticket in advance and confirm their seat in the bus ! Here blow for your information are the prices for the bus .

1- front two row     $40.00 per seat

2- middle of the bus $30.00

3- back of the bus    $25.00

This farm is about 2 1/2 hours drive from great neck ( exit 21 on interstate highway 87)

We are free to eat as much sour cherry  as we want but we must pay $2.00 for each pound that we bring back home. Please bring your own sandwich , water and empty cardboard boxes to place your sour cherry !
